EMUGE-FRANKEN Group: Well-known data governance process in a new guise

ISO Professional Services GmbH converted the licenses of its data quality tools from SAP ECC 6 to S/4HANA for the EMUGE-FRANKEN Group. This was a challenging project because the customer's general migration to S/4HANA was taking place at the same time.

The initial situation

For more than 100 years, the EMUGE-FRANKEN Group has been one of the world's leading manufacturers of tools for threading, drilling, milling, testing and clamping. EMUGE-FRANKEN is a renowned system supplier of standard cutting tools and customized special tools for various manufacturing processes.

The tools produced enable highly efficient machining in series production in the automotive and automotive supplier industry, in general mechanical engineering, in the metalworking industry and in the aerospace industry.

1,900 employees produce and distribute more than 40,000 articles and special tools worldwide. Since 2013, EMUGE-FRANKEN has been using the Marlin Suite, the proven SAP data quality solutions from ISO Professional Services GmbH (IPS). The products used include the tools Marlin Preliminary Transactions, Marlin Duplicate Check and Marlin UST-ID Check. All solutions were used in the customer's previous SAP ERP ECC 6 system.

The task

EMUGE-FRANKEN now needed to migrate to SAP S/4HANA. In addition to the migration, it was important for the Franconian tool specialist to be able to continue using the tried and tested data quality functions. From IPS's point of view, this was not a problem because the Marlin Suite is 100% compatible with S/4HANA.

Another advantage was that the project manager at IPS had supported the customer EMUGE-FRANKEN from the very beginning and was therefore very familiar with the customer's requirements. Due to these aspects and the consistently pleasant, effective and professional cooperation over the years, it was obvious to entrust ISO Professional Services GmbH with the conversion of the Marlin Suite.

The project

At the beginning of 2023, the customer formulated the specific requirements for the project and the IPS team defined the milestones together with EMUGEFRANKEN: the technical installation of the Marlin Suite products. Another new feature of the software suite was that the Marlin Data Governance Business Partner tool on S/4HANA systems now has an additional component: MGB Finance, which enables the use of the UKM business partner role (in the credit area).

The installation was followed by joint workshops. The tools were adapted to the new system landscape and a S/4HANA test system was made available to the customer in May. The data governance processes were then tested with Marlin Governance Businesspartner (MGB) and went live in October. The Bluefield project was completed in about eight months.

As the project ran parallel to the general migration of the S/4HANA system, there were slight delays in the overall process: Switching to the Marlin Governance Business Partner tool and making the necessary settings was not without its challenges. However, the experienced project manager from ISO Professional Services was able to overcome these challenges thanks to his many years of experience with the customer.

The Results

All data quality solutions requested by the customer from ISO Professional Services GmbH have been running productively since last fall. The migration to SAP S/4HANA was successful and the customer is very satisfied with the updated data governance processes.
